Upgrading your heroes

When starting Evony you will want the best hero to start off with. There is a simple rule for this...

The lowest hero you can get is a level 1.
A hired hero will always have a default loyalty of 70.
All heros have three major attributes that ascertain their pecking order in your society. These are politics, attack and wisdom/intelligence.

To give a hero the best start in life you will need to find one that has a high starting value in a particular attribute of concern. Common heroes for hire have a max 'base' value of 70 for any of these attributes.

The 'base' value is worked out as follows...

base = (current attribute value - (hero level - 1))
Eg: a level 7 hero with a shown politics value of 53 has a base of 47 politics.

So, we are looking for hero to hire that has a base of 68 or more, to give it the best chance of maximum development.

Ideally, each city should have 3 heroes... one of each (Attack for fighting and training troops; Politics for your mayor and building; and Wisdom for your researching).

NOTE:
Always switch you city's mayor to another hero with a correct attributes for a particular job.
Eg: If you are researching, make your hero with the highest wisdom value the mayor first, before starting the research.
Once the research has been started, swap your mayors back around, so that the hero with the highest politics is mayor.
The same can be said with training troops... The best attack hero should be mayor prior to training these.

A hero's development is derived from certain movements. But, the fastest way to get him (or her) to level up it to attack things. When a hero wins a fight, or loses alot of troops during a battle, he gets experience from this encounter. Even losing a battle will gain experience, but that is not our purpose here.

The bigger the challenge to overcome in battle, the more experience the hero will gain from that encounter.

A hero appointed as your city's mayor will also gain experience from the building upgrades and research advances that is done there. But, these are trivial and often take time to complete.

Adding a little extra Oomph! to your heroes....

Once you have a Workshop built you can start researching gear. Once worn by a hero this gear will boost a chosen attribute of your choice. When a hero's level reaches 10 or more he will have the ability to wear this gear. A hero can only wear a level of gear, that depends on his own level (to wear level 2 gear the hero must be level 30 or above).

Tip: Good items to research first are CHARM and RING. A hero wears two of the items at a time, so you will be researching double the points for the price of one :-)

It would not be a good idea to start adding Stars (gems) to the gear just yet. Just let the items accumulate, as you will need to use these four-at-a-time later on for the best results.

Adding stars to your gear (best method)...

!!!USE THE MANUAL WAY!!!

Try to use flawless gems for upgrading, as these give the best percentage of success.

Items should be upgraded to each star level with a minimum of ONE HOUR between attempts (one item per hour), using this method...

Select "Use 4 flawless"
Select "Use flawless from [current level]"
Select "To [current level + 1]"

The percentage of success will say 85% or more..... Then press MANUAL.

Always wait for 1 hour (or more) between attempts. Continuous attempts will result in the percentage of success decreasing drastically. There is nothing more depressing than getting up to star level up to 7 or 8 and seeing it drop back to one.
